Normal service will be resumed....Well I'm glad to report that my internet is back up and running. I guess I jumped the gun a bit when I last posted, that it was a dodgey router that was the problem when in fact it was the connection. A nice engineer has since been out and fingers crossed it is all ok now.

Using your phone as a security device. First off, a quick apology. I'm only a week into the blog and already I have missed my daily update. Unfortunately due to a faulty router I had none, or intermittent net access for the last few days. For this reason this post will be a double header.
If it's to be believed, we in the UK are living with the highest density of security cameras in Europe. So we are always being watched and recorded, even if we don't know it, or care. This means that those of a shady character and up to no good are ever mindful that they are being watched. This inevitably means that they will move into areas that have no camera coverage. Having a camera in your pocket as part of your cameraphone means that you can now be a mobile recording unit. Having a ready accessible camera means that you are also able to get grab shots that you take your fancy, like when I visited a Chinese noodle bar. For the missing posts, please read on. Its all in the mind. For some, abstract art in whatever form is lost to them. If its not a captivating portrait or landscape then its just ...meh! In photography it is the same. For a lot of photographers, they just don't get it, and find it hard to flaunt the rules they have learned. Its all about creating nice, well composed images for them and abstract photography is for the arty set, or worse they harbour thoughts that abstract creators aren't professional and are constantly making mistakes and call it abstract.
Rules, such as composition and accurate focusing hold no values. The abstract photographer uses his or her creative imagination to create stunning and unusual works of art. The final image is not necessarily going to mean the same thing to everyone, the beauty afterall is in the eye of the beholder. Abstract photography leaves more to the imagination and lets us concentrate on texture and colour. In this respect its all about looking and seeing everyday objects in our life in a different way and maybe adding a little mystery and intrigue to your images. When I posted one of my Phoneye images to facebook it generated a few queries. Yesterdays daily shot brought me to create something similar. Read on to see how I created Gigerkin. What is Street Photography?Street photography has been around for a long time and has some famous names attached to its practice. Eugene Atget, Walker Evans and Henri Cartier-Bresson ( the exponent of "the decisive moment") are just a few of the best know photographers who made the style famous. So What is Street Photography?, and can it be done with a mobile?
To some people this question means different things. If you are looking for a dictionary definition, Wikipedia gives a somewhat generic one : Street photography is a type of documentary photography that features subjects in candid situations within public places. A Stroll Along The River. Most photographers will tell you that they always have a camera with them....well most of the time. It does begin to feel, if you do it for a living or are passionate about photography as if a camera is attached to your hip. Some believe, in this day and age of fast media that you should have a camera on you at all times, just in case you come across a newsworthy event. Now, what if you go out for a stroll and don't think or forget to take a camera. Well fortunately most of us essentially have one in our pockets at all times in the form of a camera phone.
This happened to me yesterday. I had been doing a bit of DIY at home and found that I had ran out of paint. As it wasn't a bad day weather wise, we actually had some bright blue sky in Leicester, I decided to take a walk canal side along the River Soar to my nearby DIY superstore that shall remain nameless. Before reaching my destination I came upon the old sluice mechanism at Evans Weir. I already had an idea in my mind for my Phoneye shot of the day but when I came upto the weir, the dappled light on the old rusted cog was just too good to resist. Serendipity, mmm. I'm just glad I had the means to capture what became my shot of the day. Read on to see how I adjusted the image. Welcome to Phoneye.Hi and welcome to the first Phoneye blog post. If you have read the home page you will gather what this blog is all about. Hopefully it will through time answer some of the questions that people have regarding the growing area of phoneography.
I will try to keep it as light and non technical as possible, if anything for the sake of my own sanity. The daily upload in the gallery will be accompanied with an image title and a description of the apps used to create it, so you can jump off there and start trying out the app mentioned or continue to the blog. The blog post concerning the daily upload will be a little more detailed and describe the settings and any problems I encountered in creating the image. I welcome any questions and will try to answers them quickly. So lets get to it....... with a thorny topic..... HDR. |
